HMC 2025-05-07
On the 16th of April 2025, HMC, Airbus' Joint Venture in Harbin, and HRC, a global leading composite solution provider based in Changshu, signed a contract for HRC to recycle 100% of the waste carbon fiber coming from HMC.
With this agreement, HMC becomes the first Airbus plant, and one of the first in the aerospace industry, to recycle 100% of its waste carbon fibre, as part of its ambitious sustainability roadmap and "Fit For Growth" strategy. HMC produces around 15 tonnes per year of waste carbon fibre, coming from the cutting of raw carbon fibre plies and the trimming of finished products. Until now they have been treated as industrial waste, but now all this material will be recycled and given a second life as scaffolding plates for the construction industry.
he event was also an opportunity to establish the foundation for a broader partnership between HMC and HRC that will focus on light weight aerostructures, high-performance manufacturing, and circular economy, aligning with the aviation industry's increasing emphasis on sustainability and technological innovation. As part of this collaboration, two other initiatives were also agreed:
-an award letter confirming that HRC has been selected by HMC to produce A350 S19 Maintenance Door panels
- and an MoU outlining a long-term collaboration framework between HMC and HRC.
These efforts demonstrate the commitment of both companies to spearhead transformative change in the industry. Notable representatives present at the ceremony included Mr Yu Wei (Party Secretary of Changshu), Mr Wang Jianguo (Member of the Standing Committee of Changshu Municipal Party Committee, and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Changshu National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone), Mr Antonio Molina Corrigan (General Manager of HMC), and Mr Gu Yongtao (Founder and Chairman of HRC).
